- Trombly realizes the importance of the precious cargo that we carry, our future generation. As such, we are extremely safety-conscious and adhere to strict procedures and policies.
- PRE-SERVICE TRAINING - We recruit and train most of our drivers. Before licensing, each candidate receives twenty or more hours of instruction from our safety department. Such instruction consists of vehicle pre-trip inspection, parking and close quarter maneuvering, on road operation that includes student pickups, drop-offs, railroad crossing and emergency situations. Also, they must pass a pre-employment drug screening as well as a background check of their criminal and driving records. The latter is verified through the Mass Department of Transportation and Energy (DET). Once all of these pre-requisites are satisfactorily completed the candidate is readied for and extensive on-road test by the DET. This is a very exacting test and one can be assured that once passed, the candidate is quite fit to begin the operation of our school buses.
- IN-SERVICE TRAINING - Each of our licensed drivers is required to have at least eight hours of annual training. We have periodic meetings at which we keep our drivers updated to industry changes and safety issues particular to our operation.
- DRUG TESTING - Prior to hiring on with our company a driver must have a pre-employment drug test. Once hired, all drivers are subject to random drug and alcohol testing as mandated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). We utilize an outside company to enroll and select our employees. Finally, our drivers are drug tested should they be involved in a significant vehicle accident.
- SEAT BELTS - Many people wonder why school buses generally do not have seat belts. Did you know that school buses are the safest place for your child to be transported to school? Find out more at the STN News website.
